Past Events – Spring 2023

Social events:
  • Tea and Cake with Greg Restall: on Thursday 9th February, from 2-3pm in Arts Seminar Room 9. If free tea, cake, and coffee isn’t enough to convince you, this is a great opportunity to have your voice heard! Greg is both the department’s Shelby Cullom Davis Professor, and the Chair of the PAFS Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. This committee discusses and engages with issues on inclusivity, equality, and diversity, so this event is a valuable chance for you to have your feedback heard, particularly if you belong to an underrepresented group in philosophy.

Reading Group:
  • Louisa MacDonald will be running a reading group on Yuriko Saito's Everyday Aesthetics, which is available as an ebook at the St Andrews library here. (We can also share PDFs of chapters for anyone who does not have institutional login.) The group will meet weekly between January and early March.
  • Kas Bernays and Miriam Bowen will be running a reading group on Middle Eastern and Asian philosophy, likely starting with some readings on Daoism and Islamic philosophy. The group will meet bi-weekly starting in January, and the first meeting will be devoted to deciding on a reading schedule for the term.
  • Jade Fletcher will be running a reading group on Katharine Jenkins's Ontology and Oppression. The group will meet weekly online starting in April.
